Proceeds are being collected by Cormack Baldwin
Hi, all, and welcome to the Write-a-thon! Thank you so much for helping me fundraise for Lo. This means the world to both of us, and I’m so glad there are people out there extending a helping hand. Let me give a brief explanation of everything going on.
LO’S FUNDRAISER Lo is a fellow trans horror author and enthusiast who is in a bad place. Their housing is under threat and their father (who is also their landlord) has been acting increasingly dangerous and erratic. You can read it in their own words at their GoFundMe here.
The point of this fundraiser is to help get them, their critters, and their partner to stable, safe housing where they can focus on healing.
ABOUT ME I’m Cormack! I’m a horror/fantasy author and the editor of Archive of the Odd. My work tends to examine nature, destruction, and disability through myriad lenses. Or sometimes there’s just a rug that eats people. It’s hard to tell ahead of time. I have an unspeakable backlog of stories that need to get finished, grants to apply to for AotO, and any number of newsletters, articles, and essays to work on. I need to write, and Lo needs housing.
So, to make things a bit more exciting, why not combine the two? The fundraiser will run Sept 1-15, during which I’ll write, update you on what I’m up to, and raise as much for Lo as possible!
I tend to write, when I’m really gunning it, about a thousand words a day. Assuming that’s the case throughout, I’m predicting about 14,000 words by the end. And that’s where you come in!
GOALS AND PLEDGES The goal for this fundraiser is $1800, which is, putting it mildly, a lot, especially when I predict writing 14,000 words and pledges are by thousand words. That’s just over $128.50 in pledges per thousand words! So why $1800 and not something more manageable?
First, it’s a division of 18. That’s chai, the number of life. A good luck number if there ever was one! But also, that’s roughly the cost of the first month’s rent and a security deposit around where we live. Once they move, they can focus on healing and getting back on their feet. Once we make that, it’s all easier from there. Thank you for helping us reach that goal.
Any amount matters tremendously. Thank you so, so much for helping Lo.
