Proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®
In support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Philadelphia Tornadoes football team is proud to join Touchdowns Against Cancer 2017!
Touchdowns Against Cancer is important to Philadelphia because childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among young Americans. This is our way of helping the 16,000 children and adolescents that will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
Dyess said MaxPrep’s fundraiser hits home for the Tornadoes, as receiver Takavius Bingham is all too familiar with the disease.
“When he was in kindergarten, he was diagnosed with cancer,” Dyess said of Bingham. “And I know there are some children here in Philadelphia, and I don’t know if they’re using St. Jude, but they’re using University of Mississippi Medical Center and they have cancer.”
The Tornadoes will play Quitman, Choctaw Central and Southeast Lauderdale during the three-game span of the Touchdowns Against Cancer fundraiser, and if the team’s previous performances serve as indicators, 10 touchdowns should easily be attainable. Dyess said she hopes the money raised helps those in need.
“I think my goal was to raise $1,000 dollars,” Dyess said. “You can pay as little or as much you want to pay. It doesn’t have to be $10.00 a touchdown, you can do a dollar, or, if you have the money and want to, you can donate to the program because it’s for a good cause.”
