Proceeds benefit Liam's Life Foundation
On February 27th, several runners will take on 68.8 miles of the “Backbone Trail” in the Santa Monica Mountains. The organizer of the run, professional MMA fighter, Marcus Kowal, is the co-founder, alongside his wife, Mishel Eder, of Liam’s Life Foundation. Liam’s Life Foundation is a 501(c)(3) California Non-Profit Organization that is committed to raising awareness, educating others, affecting policy changes, and decreasing drunk driving rates, as it took the life of their son, Liam Kowal, on September 3rd, 2016 in Hawthorne, California.
The mission of Liam’s Life is to end all alcohol-related fatalities and to change the social culture around drinking and driving, through lectures, meetings, roll-a-thon events, and runs.
The Chasin’ Change event is another event driven by the cause. Not only is the run raising awareness, but also pledges. You can call and pledge the amount you’d like to dedicate for the Foundation. All proceeds will go towards the efforts of saving lives by lowering the BAC to 0.05 and organ donation via Liam’s Life Foundation. Every year over 10,000 lives are lost due to drunk driving. Statistics from other countries show that lowering the BAC can decrease rates by 10-15%.
Tune in on Saturday, February 27th, as the runners will begin at midnight and plan to finish by sunset.
