Welcome to one crazy fundraiser!! My goal is to attempt to skimo (which is the act of skiing up the mountain by your own power and then skiing back down) for 24 consecutive hours. Some might be shocked when they hear about this fundraiser, others know me better. Some might question, “why would you do something so crazy?” It’s because I absolutely love the teens I get to work with and I love all the different opportunities we get to provide them through The LewCrew. At The Root Cellar, our LewCrew teens are given their very first chance at a job, working as lawn care specialists, baristas in our Common Grounds Cafe, english language teachers as well as mentors to the younger kids in our programming. Work is just one aspect of LewCrew, we also incorporate growing together, playing together and gathering together. Teens in LewCrew are given the opportunity every winter to learn how to ski, as we take them to Black Mountain of Maine every Wednesday evening during the winter. Teens get to grow together in many ways, as I’m writing this we are currently offering these electives for the teens in our LewCrew, woodworking, guitar, personal finance, crafting and sewing. We gather together every Tuesday evening for a meal and games. Long story short, we have so many incredible teens in our programming and we want to continue to be able to provide excellent opportunities for them to grow. All of the money raised by this event will be going towards teen programming, and a large part will be going towards the Common Grounds Cafe that is operated by our Teens. Our cafe is available to everyone as it has a pay what you can model, this leads to us serving many of our homeless neighbors as well as those who do not have the ability to pay for a traditional cafe experience. Through Common Grounds cafe, teens are given the skills to work in a high pace, high demand job while learning to serve and care for each customer who comes through our doors. I ask that you join in this awesome work by pledging money for each lap I am able to complete - My goal is 20 laps in 24 hours, anything that you can give would be a huge help for our programming! PLEASE PRAY I SURVIVE :) :)
