Based on 10 Murphs, each worth $503.50
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lisa. Army Veteran, VA nurse, and lover of my great Central Texas/Fort Hood community, here is my story…
Each year we complete The Murph Challenge on Memorial Day in honor of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy Seal killed in Afghanistan in June 2005. The Murph Challenge, originally known as “Body Armor” consists of a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and a 1 mile run all in a weighted vest. This year we wanted to do something special in his memory. He was an avid reader and known for his favorite saying “education will set you free.” This year I am committing to 24 hours of Murph. Beginning Sunday 26 May at 10:00am and finishing 27 May at 10:00am (Memorial Day) I will complete the Murph Challenge for as many rounds as possible. We have partnered with Educated Angels, a Central Texas 501c3 non-profit and the money raised will go towards scholarships for children of Veterans who are pursuing careers as educators and nurses. I am asking my friends and family to donate with either a flat rate or a per/Murph amount towards this fundraiser.
To my knowledge, this has never been attempted in the United States, and never completed by a woman (it was completed once by a gentleman in the UK in 2017). This is a goal unlike no other and will only be possible with the help and support of my friends, family, and community. Please consider donating or sharing this with others. Also, if you are interested we will set up a rotation of blocks of time throughout the 24 hours where I welcome anyone to come and join me or just show up and support and cheer along the way.
