“There are no words to describe the heartbreak we feel for our Maui ‘ohana during this devastating time. The worst natural disaster in our islands’ history and the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century. The town of Lahaina is unrecognizable and the lost of lives are unimaginable.” - Kamu Grugier-Hill
_To support our fundraising efforts, I am personally donating $1,000 per interception made by the Panthers during the 2023-‘24 football season. _Please join my PledgeIt campaign by donating what you can per team interception the season to help raise funds for the MauiReliefFund. Many of my teammates and friends around the league are in support of our RebuildingMaui campaign to help us meet our fundraising goal of $1M. You can also join my teammates Johnny Hekker’s “Punts for Maui” or Frankie Luvu’s “Sacks for Maui“ PledgeIt campaigns that are also supporting the Rebuilding Maui Relief Fund.
The world has witnessed a historic and devastating fire on the island of Maui, Hawaii. The wind-driven fires prompted evacuations, caused widespread damage, and killed more than a hundred people in the town of Lāhainā.
Approximately 1,300 people remain missing. A perfect storm of conditions led to the deadly blazes. The drought blanketing swaths of the archipelago played a major role. Hurricane Dora, meanwhile, churned in the Pacific several hundred miles south. The islands were not under hurricane warnings. Still, the storm’s resulting low pressure, paired with a high pressure to the north, created strong winds that would fuel the destruction.
Through the Lonomai Foundation its Rebuilding Maui Relief Fund, we are committed to the long term financial assistance in the rebuilding and rehabilitation of the Lāhainā community and town, as well as the short term emergency funding and support for tangible items that is needed such as generators, tents, medicine, school supplies, and much more. We have identified several worthy and vetted nonprofit organizations to support in addition to researching and having conversations with other organizations that are helping for the short and long-term needs. A few of the identified organizations include Habitat for Humanity, Hawaii Community Foundation, Global Empowerment Mission, and others that we will research and vet as the needs are assessed.
We are here for the long haul which is why we have created the RebuildingMaui.org initiative.
