Race For Jake: Help fund Jake’s Cancer Treatment

THE CAUSE:

Hi, my name is Evan Landes. I’m a competitive runner who has raced at events like the NCAA Cross Country Championships and US Olympic Marathon Trials, and I’m fundraising for my friend Jake James. Earlier this year, Jake began experiencing seizure-like episodes that took him to the ER. Upon imaging, a mass was found in Jake’s brain, and he was scheduled for surgery to remove it. Most of the mass was removed during surgery, but the pathology came back that some of the mass remained and that the tissue was malignant. Unfortunately, Jake will now have to undergo radiation and chemotherapy to treat the remaining tumor. This condition takes a physical, mental, and spiritual toll, and in addition to that, there comes a financial burden for medical treatment as well.

ABOUT JAKE :

Jake is one of the most upbeat, fun-loving people I know. He’s always the life of the party and positive. Jake is a former cross country and track teammate of mine while at Mulvane High School and contributed to multiple state cross country championship titles. Jake is an Air Force veteran, and he and his wife, Maci, now live in Wichita, Kansas. The entire James family have always been caring and supportive people, and I’d like you to help me help them during this challenging time.

THE EVENT:

On August 21st, I’ll be racing the Mulvane Old Settlers Road Race 4 mile. You can help by pledging to make a donation based on how fast I run that day for every second I run under the 20-minute (5 minutes/mile pace) mark. For example, if you pledge $2 per second, and I finish with a time of 19:10, then you’re pledging to donate $100 dollars towards Jake’s fund. I’ve run 19:23 on this course before, so I’ll be trying to get into good shape to beat that time. The faster I run the more help Jake and Maci receive. There’s also an option to make a flat donation to the James’ as well.
