Dear Friend,

Thank you for dedicating a few moments of your time to learn about this organization and to be apart of this project.

It all started a few years ago when I took a Diving Certification class in Florida. For a few of the dives, I had the privilege of being a part of a group that included divers with physical disabilities. I was quite inspired by their tremendous efforts and their bright smiles throughout the entire process. I was also touched to witness the level of dedication and commitment displayed by the Dive Masters and Instructors, in particular Instructor Worth O’Brian. His knowledge, experience and humanity added an extra level of value to this experience and to this worthy cause.

There was a night dive with this group and Worth that stands out and has left a lasting impression on me. On this dive, he led us down into the warm, black water, 60 feet below the ocean’s surface. We all enjoyed playing with bio-luminescence and with flashlights we even discovered an old shipwreck. In these moments it was as though all the physical limitations and differences had disappeared; we saw how we were all the same in the water. The feelings produced by this experience will remain with me forever.

At the beginning of 2018, we at iTiles, started a charity and volunteering program where every team member is to dedicate 1 working day to a cause of their choosing. The cause is to be within their own community and along with their volunteer time, iTiles also contributes with donation.

Combining two passions of mine, diving and running, this is my little contribution to help others improve their lives.

This is my daily personal and professional commitment: It’s amazing how much can be done through little gestures. Be great with the little things that can make a big difference!

Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatics is a non-profit organization based out of Florida, who offer aid around the nation to educate and assist adults, children and Veteran’s with disabilities learn aquatic skills for every level of ability. This organization allows for individuals who are physically challenged to have a chance at a unique and fulfilling experience with a team of professionally trained volunteers. There are multiple Adaptive SCUBA Programs and the benefits for these individuals are priceless.

Imagine for a moment, an activity that allowed for movement underwater, that you normally wouldn’t be able to achieve on land!

The Disabled Children’s Program, is just one of the many services that Aquanaut’s offer. This SCUBA camp is offered to special needs and underprivileged children between the ages of 10 and 17 years old. The program provides aquatic therapy and rehabilitation through SCUBA training. The kids learn new skills and gain confidence all while “breathing underwater for the first time” and feeling “weightless underwater like an Astronaut in outer-space!”

For a group of 10 children, the cost of the camp is about $23k! The next group for this program is scheduled for June of 2019. At this point, they have $7k in promised funding from the National Parks Conservation Association. While that amount is a huge help, this organization relies solely on donations and that amount won’t cover the costs it takes to provide equipment, trainers and services.

The Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatics Organization is something that is near to Nicola’s heart.

Nicola has been training around the clock, running in half marathons, increasing his strength and endurance, while also reaching and surpassing his own personal goals. This next challenge, however, will be his hardest yet. He will be running his first complete Marathon of 42.2 kilometers! The marathon is to be held in Okanagan, a Canadian Province in British Columbia, on October 7, 2018. He has decided to push himself even further, by using this marathon as an opportunity to raise funds for the Disabled Children’s Program! Our goal with this fundraiser is to try to raise the difference needed for the children’s camp in June. Let’s all do our part to get these children “Diving into Possibilities“

Every little bit helps! We have set this page to receive pledges-per-kilometer to give as a donation. We are also accepting flat rate amounts to add to the donation total!

Caro Amico, Cara Amica

Ti chiedo di dedicarmi qualche momento del tuo tempo, e ti ringrazio per questo. Vorrei farti conoscere un'organizzazione e un progetto che aiuta i bambini, e chiedere anche a te di partecipare. Ti racconto come tutto ha avuto inizio per me. Qualche anno fa, ho frequentato un corso di certificazione subacquea in Florida. Tra le varie immersioni fatte, ho preso parte ad un gruppo che composto anche da subacquei con limitazioni fisiche e sono rimasto ammirato, meravigliato e commosso di fronte al loro enormi sforzi ed ai loro luminosi ed entusiastici sorrisi. Meravigliato e commosso dalla dedizione e dall'impegno mostrato dai Dive Masters ed istruttori sub, in particolare dall'istruttore Worth O'Brien. Mi hanno colpito profondamente la sua competenza, la preparazione e l’umanità dimostrata, che aggiungono valore a questa esperienza e a questa causa. Una sera ci ha guidato in un'immersione notturna, conducendoci nell'acqua calda e nera della Florida, a 20 metri di profondità. Ci siamo divertiti tutti a giocare con la bioluminescenza e ad avventurarci dentro un vecchio relitto con l’aiuto delle torce. In quella situazione ci siamo scoperti tutti uguali nell'acqua: nella condivisione delle emozioni, tutte le limitazioni e le differenze fisiche erano scomparse. Questa esperienza ha prodotto in me sentimenti che continuano ad accompagnarmi. All'inizio del 2018 il Team iTiles ha avviato un programma di beneficenza e volontariato: ogni membro del team dedica un giorno lavorativo per una buona causa di propria scelta, al fine di dedicarsi alla propria comunità, ed iTiles aggiunge una donazione al tempo di volontariato. Qui ti presento il mio progetto, Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatics: combinando due tra le mie passioni, la corsa e le immersioni, cerco di dare un piccolo contributo personale per aiutare gli altri a migliorare la propria vita.

Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatics è un'organizzazione con sede in Florida che offre assistenza in tutta la nazione per aiutare adulti, bambini e veterani con disabilità, ad acquisire capacità acquatiche ad ogni livello. Questa organizzazione consente a chi ha limiti fisici di poter avere la soddisfazione e la gioia di usufruire di un'esperienza unica con un team di volontari professionalmente preparati. Esistono più programmi Adaptive SCUBA e i vantaggi offerti a queste persone meno fortunate non hanno prezzo. Immagina per un attimo la possibilità di muoverti sott'acqua, con movimenti impossibili a terra; il programma per bambini disabili è solo uno dei tanti servizi offerti da Aquanaut. Questa esperienza SCUBA è costruita per soddisfare le necessità speciali di bambini e ragazzi svantaģgiati, dai 10 ai 17 anni. Il programma fornisce terapia acquatica e riabilitazione attraverso l'allenamento SCUBA. I bambini imparano nuove abilità e acquisiscono sicurezza mentre "respirano sott'acqua per la prima volta" e si sentono "senza peso, come un astronauta che fluttua nello spazio..... spaziale"! Per un gruppo di 10 bambini il costo del campo è di circa $ 23.000! Il prossimo gruppo per questo programma è previsto per giugno 2019. Fino ad ora, hanno ricevuto $ 7k in donazioni dai parchi locali e dalla Wildlife Foundation. Anche se tale importo è di grande aiuto, non copre i costi necessari per forniture, attrezzature, istruttori e servizi. L'organizzazione non ha altre forme di finanziamento oltre alle donazioni.

Ora anche tu conosci l'organizzazione e le sue finalità. La Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatitics Organisation mi sta particolarmente a cuore, ed ho pensato di collegare le sfide che ognuno di quei ragazzini deve affrontare ogni giorno con una sfida personale, correre una maratona di 42.2 km. Mi sono allenato tanto, negli ultimi mesi ho corso oltre 350 km partendo da distanze minime di 1 - 2 km per riprendermi da un infortunio. Ho corso mezze maratone, ho aumentato forza e resistenza superando anche i miei obiettivi personali fini ancoprire la distanza massima di 30km prevista in allenamento. La prossima sarà la mia sfida più difficile è non so se riuscirò ma sono determinato a mettere i tutto me stesso. Questa Maratona si terrà in Okanogan, una provincia canadese della British Columbia, il 7 ottobre 2018. Ho deciso di utilizzarla per raccogliere fondi per il programma per i bambini disabili descritto sopra. L'obiettivo è colmare la differenza fra quanto già raccolto e quanto invece serve per il campo dei bambini a giugno. Facciamo tutti la nostra parte per far sì che questi bambini "si tuffino nelle possibilita". Ecco come funziona: Puoi donare una cifra per ogni chilometro che percorrerò, quindi se concluderò la maratona quella cifra verrà moltiplicata per 42,2. Sono accettate anche cifre fisse forfettarie. Inoltre la cifra totale delle donazioni verrà raddoppiata da iTiles. Spero di ricevere il tuo aiuto in questo progetto, aiuta i bambini raggiungendo il nostro obiettivo! Ogni piccolo aiuto serve: con le piccole cose si può fare una grande differenza!

Insieme possiamo di più, insieme possiamo raggiungere questo obiettivo!
