Proceeds benefit Glide Booster Club
Based on 136 laps, each worth $32.03
Glide High School is a tiny school in rural Southern Oregon with limited resources that needs a new track. We are a group of alumni and former track and field athletes organizing a lap-a-thon to raise money for the Glide Booster Club to finance the repair of this old and weathered facility. We will walk as many laps around the track as possible in a 12 hour period and are seeking donors to invest in a state-of-the-art track facility for current and future student athletes to discover new potential.
Pledge an amount per lap, or a fixed amount. Every dollar raised will be matched by the Oregon Community Foundation!
This campaign is about more than replacing a surface for students to run and practice on. It’s about rebuilding a sense of pride in a facility that has been a nucleus for the community for decades. We were students and athletes in Glide that spent hundreds of hours on that track, building character, friendships, strength, and our own pride for a renowned landmark that attracted sports teams from around Oregon. The Glide Track and Field program thrived because of dedicated coaches and hard working students, but also because the track that was available to us was modern and beautiful. We strove to be better athletes and competitors because the world-class track called us to that pursuit. And while the benefits of that time on the Glide track still pay off for us as adults today, the track is in disrepair, and the small town pride in this community facility has waned. The goal of our lap-a-thon is to support the Glide Booster Club fundraising campaign to resurface the Glide track and gift current and future students the pride and encouragement we felt racing across a new track surface.
