Hiking for the paws, making every mile count.

The Adventure: In September 2021 I intend to thru-hike (all at once) the Vermont Long Trail and would like to do this as a charity event to benefit Homeward Bound. I feel having the effort connected to a cause will allow this to be about more than me, and give me strength and motivation to push through and overcome the inevitable challenges I will face on this adventure. I will be setting up a way to share my progress online with a GPS track, journal and photo updates so that anyone interested can follow along. Be sure to return to this page for the link once I begin the hike on August 28th.

The Goal: The full length of the Long Trail is about 272 miles, so as an arbitrary goal I’m picking $2,720 which would be 10 people donating $1/mile. Of course you can pledge less than a dollar, more, or whatever you’d like! Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. All funds will go directly to Homeward Bound (I will not be handling the money) who are a 501(c)(3) and therefore your pledge is tax-deductible. Please help spread the word and share this with your animal-loving friends and family. Thank you!

About Me: My name is Scott Remick and I’m a native Vermonter who grew up and still lives in Addison County. I have a passion for the outdoors, the environment and for animals. I have a cat of my own (my bunny died in March) and am a sucker for anything with fur, paws and a tail. I have been camping and hiking all my life and although I’ve hiked parts of the Long Trail in the past, I’ve never hiked the entire thing. Nor have I done a backpacking trip this long, so I expect (and welcome) a challenge of my skills and endurance.

More information about Homeward Bound: Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is a private non-profit organization in Middlebury, Vermont, that serves an average of 900 animals in the shelter and dozens more through their community programs. Their community programs are designed to combat pet overpopulation, support low-income pet owners, and enhance the human-animal bond through outreach and education.
