Proceeds benefit Lavender Rights Project
Trans rights are under attack, and trans-specific organizations are underfunded, even compared to other LGBTQ+ nonprofits, healthcare, and legal defense funds. That’s where the Trans Rights Readathon comes in!
The Trans Rights Readthon is independently organized by the bookish community across platforms to raise funds for trans organizations and highlight books by trans authors. From March 22-29, 2024, I will be reading books by trans authors. I have 8 books on my to-read list and intend to read all of them.
I plan to donate $20/book that I read. I’d love for you to match this, but you can choose a donation pledge per book OR give a flat donation. Whatever makes the most sense for you! 💚
All donations to my readathon will benefit the Lavender Rights Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Seattle, envisioning a world where Black trans women — and consequently all Black and gender diverse communities — thrive. They focus on legal, housing, and economic justice, and their housing project is the only one in Seattle centered on housing (adult) trans people.
When you donate to this campaign, you will receive a tax receipt for a charity donation. If your employer has a charity match program, please get them to match your donation!
As a nonbinary trans person, this readathon is also personal for me. The rising tide of hate led by corrupt political grifters affects my ability to get healthcare, travel inside the US, and more. Yes, even though I live in “liberal” Seattle. We saw a recent anti-trans and queer youth bill (i-2081) passed by the Democrat-controlled WA legislation!
There are 470+ bills in US state legislation attacking trans rights, from access to gender-affirming healthcare and public restrooms to the ability to parent our children and for kids to be safe in public schools. Many bills target trans children. But many seek to control trans adults and aim at the rest of our queer community (LGBQIA+). Not to mention cishet people who don’t fit in little boxes or parent trans children. In a big election year, the 2024 GOP POTUS candidate has vowed to end gender-affirming care for all trans people, ban books about trans people, and do more heinous things.
I appreciate your support, as community is the only way to bring about real change. Thank you. ❤️

Lavender Rights Project (LRP) elevates the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. We utilize the law as an organizing principle to affirm our civil rights and self-determination. Our organization disrupts oppressive systems that target Black gender diverse and intersex communities of color and lead to disproportionate levels of poverty, housing disparities, and gender-based violence, especially among Black and Indigenous people.
