End NF with Ian Desmond

Please join Ian Desmond, centerfielder of the Colorado Rockies, as we raise awareness and support research to cure the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis, also known as NF. This devastating disease causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, and affects 1 in 3,000 births of all populations. There is no cure for NF … yet.

Help us change that now by joining Ian’s team during the month of May, which is NF Awareness Month. We hope that you will join his team by pledging a small donation for every run that the Colorado Rockies score during the same month. At the end of the month, Ian will match the amount of the pledged donation up to the campaign goal. In addition, the Colorado Rockies Foundation will match a portion of the pledged donation. Ian will also be donating $1,000 for each of his runs batted in during the month of May. All donations will be made to the Children’s Tumor Foundation via the Colorado Rockies Foundation.

Finding a cure for NF is a cause that’s been important to Ian for many years. Over that time, he has developed friendships with many special individuals and families suffering from this disease. Seeing their resilience and strength in the wake of this condition has been a constant inspiration. Importantly, despite the prevalence of NF (over 2.5 million people worldwide), the disease is not well known by the public. This needs to change, and we hope you will join Ian’s team to make that happen.

When you join Ian’s drive to end NF, you’re teaming up with our friends at the Children’s Tumor Foundation, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to funding and driving innovative research that will result in effective treatments for the millions of people worldwide living with NF - a term for three distinct disorders: NF1, NF2, and schwannomatosis. The Children’s Tumor Foundation mission of driving research, expanding knowledge, and advancing care for the NF community fosters their vision of one day ending NF, so that all those with NF can live better, healthier lives. How Does This Work?

By pledging to this campaign, you will be pledging to make a donation to the Children’s Tumor Foundation via the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club Foundation for every run that the Colorado Rockies score in the month of May. For example, if the Rockies score 125 runs in May, and you pledge $1 per run, that would be a $125 pledged donation. The Rockies play a total of 27 games in the month.

For reference, the Rockies scored 120 runs in May 2018, and 157 runs in May 2017. For each year, they averaged 4.8 runs per game in 2018; and 5.1 runs per game in 2017.
