Proceeds benefit Food for the Hungry
There are communities very close to Villa Mella, where I grew up in the Dominican Republic, that don’t have clean water and basic necessities. They don’t have enough food or safe places for the children to play. What they do have is love; love of life; love of each other; and definitely, love of baseball!
Recently, I went back home to visit these communities and I made a promise. I made a promise to come back; a promise to do everything I can to help bring food, water, education and safe places to play to them; a promise to share their story with fellow MLB players and bring them to visit and see the love and spirit of the people. I intend to keep my promise.
Please join me in helping kids just like me by pledging for every hit I have for the remainder of the season (from May 1). The money raised from this campaign will benefit Striking Out Poverty, a program of Food for the Hungry. To go along with my #25 jersey, I will be kicking off the campaign with a $25 per hit pledge.
Striking Out Poverty is a program within Food for the Hungry, a non-profit organization. Founded in 1971, Food for the Hungry provides emergency relief and long-term development programs with operations in more than 20 countries, seeking to end all forms of human poverty. Using solutions that are innovative and community-specific to the complex view of poverty, Food for the Hungry contributes to community-owned transformations that empower children, families and communities to invest in their own development.
Thank you for your support and for helping me to hit away at poverty!
Sincerely,
Gregory Polanco
