Crazy for education?
I am attempting to break the Citi Bike “Bike Angel” record for points earned in one day, while simultaneously raising funds for the Beginning with Children Foundation (BwC), a small network of charter schools with a BIG purpose! BwC schools and the Alumni Legacy Network are dedicated to educating the “whole child” from kindergarten through college. Barclays colleagues have partnered with BwC for years, even winning a Citizenship Award together in 2018 for their efforts!
“Bike Angels” is a Citi Bike program that balances the fleet of bikes through an algorithm that updates every 15 minutes, 24 hours per day. The current daily record is 507 points. I aim to beat it with a stretch goal to double it at 1,014 points. For context, my total so far for 2018 is about 500. Doing 4 digits in a day is both physically and mentally crushing – so let’s get after it!
I will start at 12 midnight and accumulate as many points as possible in 24 hours. I aim to hit at least 50 different stations over the course of the day. I estimate that I will need to complete one quality trip every four minutes to meet the goal.
What can you do?
Sponsoring me – either on a per-point or flat basis – will make a tangible difference in the lives of BwC students. Make a pledge below, and Barclays will also make a substantial matching donation, so our efforts will have a greater impact!
You can also follow my progress on Twitter and Instagram at @BeginwChildren and look out for #angeljoeonthego on the day.
Thank you for your support – now let’s get riding!
