Every spring, the Eta Upsilon chapter of Beta Theta Pi sets out on our 1,100 Hours service campaign. Our mission is to raise awareness for the 1,100 college students who commit suicide annually. Through our 1,100 Hours campaign the members of our chapter work together to perform 1,100 hours of community service in the Elon and Burlington areas.
As proud as we are of our service work, we understand that our commitment to this cause cannot end there. This is where we require your help. We are asking for your monetary pledges in order to go one step further. Every member of our chapter of Beta Theta Pi, is expected to perform 13 hours of community service before April 27th, 2019. If you would be generous enough to make a monetary pledge for every hour performed, it would go a long way to supporting our mission.
The Eta Upsilon chapter of Beta Theta Pi is partnered with the Burlington Chapter of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. With our philanthropic work each year we are able to give a substantial amount of help to NAMI. Our main methods of raising money include the fee associated with registering a team in our annual philanthropy event, Broom Ball, and soliciting friends, family, and alumni for donations. With our philanthropic contribution, the Alamance Chapter of NAMI is provided with a significant increase in their budget to better fight mental illness such as depression, anxiety, and others in the Elon and Burlington areas. This year we hope to build upon our success with your help.
Donations can be made either by pledging a monetary amount for every hour of service completed or in a flat donation. If you choose to pledge for every hour, it will be capped so you don’t donate more than 1,100 times that amount. For example, if you donate one cent for every hour your final donation amount will be at maximum $11.
