Ana Turns for Project Elimu

Do you remember the excitement and pride you felt the first time you put on new pointe shoes? I do and I believe every young ballerina deserves to feel that joy and to have the opportunity (and challenge) of learning to dance on pointe.

I have been working with Project Elimu for the past two years to support dance education in Kibera, Kenya. The work of Project Elimu is awe inspiring. All kids from the Kibera community are welcome at the Center for two meals a day and can partake in ARTs Education, including daily dance classes.

I’ve had the opportunity to join these classes (took my own first pointe class in Kibera) and make a personal connection with the young artists. They are all amazingly talented and committed. Thanks to the support I received at last year’s Turn-A-Thon, I was able to purchase and deliver over 20 new pairs of pointe shoes to the dancers. This year, your support will help me continue to support the donation of resources, including the continued donation of new pointe shoes, along with public health programming to the kids.
