Proceeds benefit Big League Impact Foundation
Growing up, I always loved visiting my grandparents’ farm in Elma, Iowa. My grandparents were farmers and worked hard all their life in order to provide for their family. Those characteristics have been passed down generations, and now the same values drive me to be the best person I can be on and off the baseball field. While growing up in Texas and going to school at Texas A&M — where agriculture is a big part of everyday life — I learned the significance of crop production.
I always strive to help make a difference for people in need, and this year, I’ve found the perfect opportunity to give back to something that has always been important to my family. Striking Out Poverty is an initiative of Food for the Hungry (FH), and — in a partnership with my teammate Adam Wainwright’s Big League Impact — I’m dedicating my performance in the 2018 season towards building a farming and sustainable agricultural system in the Monte Plata region of the Dominican Republic. This project will take place over 3 years and includes a partnership with exporters that will lead to sustainability for these families and their communities for many years to come.
Please join me in making a Big League Impact by pledging a donation for every strikeout that I throw this season. I’m kicking off the campaign by personally pledging $60 for every strikeout. Adam has offered to match up to $75,000 that we collectively raise, so anything you give will have triple the impact!
What I’m most excited about is FH’s training program, which is an excellent way to educate farmers and give them the necessary tools and techniques that — like my grandparents — will help them be able to sustainably provide for their family and their community.
Thank you for your generosity in joining me in my goal this season!
