Help Us Support Refugees In Sudan!!

Tigrayan refugees in Sudan are living in harrowing conditions. They do not have enough food to eat, live in inadequate shelters, and lack medical treatment. Besides the above, most also suffer psychological trauma having suffered the brunt of the war. I am raising funds to help these refugees through HPN4TIGRAY in collaboration with Pledges, Inc. Every dollar raised will be matched up to $10,000 by Pledges, Inc. Please help me reach the campaign goal of $10,000 by donating now. I really appreciate your support. Thank you!  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONTACT ME Treda@demerachicago.com

At the beginning of November 2020, an armed conflict emerged in Tigray, Ethiopia’s northernmost region between the federal government and the state government.  The resulting damage has been devastating and enormous in scale including civilian deaths, widespread rape and ethnic cleansing causing displacement of close to 3 million people.  Of these, more than 70,000 people have escaped to a neighboring country, Sudan and are sheltered in various camps.  The conditions in some of the camps are unacceptable with a lack of access to clean water, sanitation, and shelter, and adequate supplies.

A recent visit to Ham****dayet by a medical doctor working closely with our group witnessed:

1. People suffering day in & out and struggling to get enough food, proper shelter, and medical assistance they desperately need. Especially now with the rainy seasons, the poor construction of campsites is exposing them to even more horrid situations. The people are suffering and dying from preventable illnesses because of the lack of sanitation and poor hygienic conditions in the camps.

2. Communicable diseases including but not limited to diarrheal diseases, respiratory infections, contagious skin diseases are rampant in this camp. Highly infectious and transmissible infectious diseases including Hep C and E are commonly witnessed.

3. Numerous patients/clients are seeking medical assistance for numerous chronic illnesses including Diabetes, Hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and different forms of cancer, and other debilitating illnesses that are increasingly difficult to treat there. The most vulnerable group of the population including elderly patients and people with different disabilities are also housed in this refugee camp. There is a severe shortage of life-saving medications including insulin to treat diabetes and other chronic illness. Any donations to supply life-saving medications are desperately needed.

4. Most are suffering from a wide range of psychiatric disorders including severe emotional and psychological trauma. Resources needed to provide professional assistance, psycho-educational materials, and consultation services.

We would like to send our heartfelt gratitude to all those who are tirelessly working to help our peop
