Shamarko was a teammate of the Syracuse Chapter of Uplifting Athletes’ inspiration, Rob Long. They played together and were both key special team players and have remained friends after their time at Syracuse. Shamarko has continued to have an impact in the communities in which he lives and he has been an inspiration for many for his community service and the impact he has had.
For the Buffalo Bills Week 13 matchup at home against New England, fans can support Shamarko and the Syracuse Chapter of Uplifting Athletes by making a pledge for every tackle the Bills make during the My Cause My Cleats game with the Patriots.
The proceeds from Shamarko Thomas’ My Cause My Cleats Pledge Drive supports the mission of Uplifting Athletes and its charitable programs: Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research, Uplifting Experiences and Uplifting Leaders.
Make a Pledge for each tackle the Buffalo Bills defense and special teams registers against the Patriots. We are projecting Shamarko and the Bills to make 40 tackles that day!

Syracuse started tackling rare diseases in 2013 when it joined Uplifting Athletes. The student-athlete led chapter serves the rare disease community in honor of Rob Long, a former Orange punter and team captain.
The Syracuse football program also enjoys a strong relationship with 8-year-old rare brain cancer patient Lillian Belfield and her family. Lillian’s attitude on life and her perseverance have been an inspiration to the Orange and the surrounding community.
Uplifting Athletes is a national nonprofit that inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport and empowers medical researchers to find cures. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and consequently lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. Founded in 2007, Uplifting Athletes has college football student-athlete led chapters nationwide in FBS and FCS programs including half the schools in the Big Ten and ACC conferences.
Thank you for your support of the Syracuse Chapter and the rare disease community. Every little bit helps. Please don’t forget to share our Touchdown Pledge Drive campaign and your support on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
