West Lincoln is scoring to defeat childhood cancer this September!

In support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the West Lincoln Rebels football team is proud to join Touchdowns Against Cancer 2017!

Touchdowns Against Cancer is important to West Lincoln because childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among young Americans. This is our way of helping the 16,000 children and adolescents that will be diagnosed with cancer this year.

West Lincoln Community Stories:

Kyle Arias graduated from West Lincoln High School with the class of 2011. He played football for West Lincoln all four years of his high school career. After graduating high school, Kyle spent his first college semester at East Carolina University. He first noticed a small knot on his inner thigh in December of 2011. At first, the assumption was that he had simply pulled something at the gym, but by early January the small lump had grown to be about the size of a softball. It was then that he decided to see a doctor about the issue, and the diagnosis was exactly what everyone feared, Cancer. The specific type of cancer Kyle was diagnosed with was called Ewing’s Sarcoma. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a type of bone and tissue cancer that typically affects people between the ages of 10-20 . Thankfully, Kyle’s tumor was located directly under the skin, so none of his bones or muscles were harmed. After some reassurance from the doctors the treatment began. Kyle was treated with a mix of two types of chemotherapy and a number of radiation treatments. He went through chemo for approximately one year and received his last round in December of 2012. Since then, he has been deemed cancer free, and he was able to move on with his life! The obvious nature of Kyle’s tumor was what led to an early diagnosis, and he is extremely blessed to have been surrounded by such great doctors and nurses while he received treatment. Cancer affects so many kids and teens, not only in the country, but right here in our community. It seems like such a surreal thing until it happens to a friend or loved one, and organizations such as St. Jude’s are some people’s only hope, so let’s make a pledge today to help put an end to childhood cancer.

Help us reach All-American status by raising $1,000 or more!
