Proceeds are being collected by NWSL Players Association
With the NWSL shifting to a tournament style season in July, we were not able to acknowledge and support the LGBTQI+ community as we would normally through June Pride month dedicated-game play.
The Players of the NWSL, through the NWSLPA, have a strong desire and excitement to still be able to use this unique opportunity to utilize their platforms to bring awareness to the current issues faced by the LGBTQI+ communities, while also celebrating them in our own version of “Pride Weekend”. The four games played on July 12th and 13th will be recognized as the NWSL Pride Matches, and together with our players, our fans, and you all, we’d love to mobilize and unite to raise money for an organization who has dedicated their work “to activate the athletic community to exercise their leadership to champion LGBTQI+ equality” - ATHLETE ALLY.
And even though it is now July, and no longer officially Pride Month, let’s unite together to use this opportunity to highlight the celebration of Pride Month all 12 months of year. Let’s start with NWSL “Pride Weekend”, so make sure to tune into CBS All Access this weekend for our four matches:
As an organization the NWSLPA will pledge $50 to Athlete Ally for every goal scored this weekend during the NWSL Challenge Cup Tournament. We encourage you all to help us raise awareness around something so much bigger than sport, and hope you’ll join us by either making your own pledge or matching ours.
