Help me support Soccer Without Borders by pledging to my juggling challenge!

Berkshire Soccer Academy is hosting a Juggle Challenge on April 30th. Join us in taking action to create positive change for soccer-loving girls around the world.

Spring into Juggling

Mia will attempt to finish 300 juggles by April 30. Please make a pledge to support us! Mia’s grandfather was born in Managua, Nicaragua, and grew up without the luxuries we have in the USA. So many children are affected by poverty, and soccer is a way to not only teach girls teamwork, build self-esteem, keep them fit but Soccer Without Borders has a model that really changes these young girls lives.

By participating girls earn points that can be exchanged for school supplies, clothes, shoes, toiletries, and soccer equipment. Empowering these girls through soccer, the development of key skills, and connecting them to tangible education and career opportunities can help break the cycle and reset the precedent for what is expected of girls in Nicaragua, and what they expect of themselves.

A FEW FACTS:

  • While primary school enrollment for Nicaraguan girls is 85%, only 56% will reach 6th grade and just 45% will enroll in secondary school. The attendance rate for Nicaraguan girls in primary school is 83.6%, yet in secondary school it drops to 57.9%, meaning girls miss more than 2 days per week of school on average each week.
  • The school life expectancy for a Nicaraguan girl is 10.2 years. Nearly half of Nicaraguan girls are pregnant by age 20, with over a quarter of births to girls age 14-18 (this rate is much lower for girls who stay in school!).
  • Girls who are involved with Soccer Without Borders programs: For the second year in a row, we are pleased to announce an academic pass rate of 86% among our program participants. Our program includes girls ages 7-20, covering all grades throughout primary and secondary school.
