Jon's Summer Solstice

I’m playing in this event because I believe golf teaches many lessons in perseverance, preparation, honesty, kindness, respect for others, and situational awareness, and does so in perhaps the most important way possible: by teaching kids to be their best selves even when no one is watching (which normally means you're in the trees with no view of the green, civilization or hope, and at Chambers means you're in fescue or sand at the bottom of a ravine somewhere only a helicopter could see you).

The First Tee of Greater Seattle serves young people across King County (and they are now starting to expand into Snohomish County), providing opportunities to learn and play the game, regardless of income, gender, or culture.

It’s not going to create the full-on systemic changes needed for everyone to have access to all of the same rights and opportunities, I know. But it is going to provide children where I live the opportunity to play the game and to learn valuable lessons. So while we work on fixing the other stuff, it will help prepare kids to excel and take advantage of the other work that has to happen.

If you are interested, I will also be willing to share my scores at the end of the event and you can tack on some success measures (and given I play most easy courses in the low-to-mid 90's, pars and birdies seem like they should merit some extra donations, if you ask me).
