Garry bought in to the Uplifting Athletes tradition at Penn State and quickly made a difference in the rare disease community. By leveraging his position as a Penn State Football player, Gillium helped raise money and awareness during their Lift for Life ever summer of his college career. His commitment to helping others has inspired hope in the Rare Disease Community through Uplifting Athletes.
For the San Francisco 49ers Week 13 matchup on the road in Chicago, fans can support Garry and the Penn State Chapter of Uplifting Athletes by making a pledge for every yard the 49ers gain rushing during the My Cause My Cleats game with the Bears.
The proceeds from Garry Gillium’s My Cause My Cleats Pledge Drive supports the mission of Uplifting Athletes and its charitable programs: Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research, Uplifting Experiences and Uplifting Leaders.
· Make a Pledge for the total rushing yards the 49ers will gain vs the Bears. We are projecting the 49ers to rush for 90 yards against Chicago!

Penn State was the first Uplifting Athletes Chapter. Founded in 2003 by Uplifting Athletes founder Scott Shirley in honor of his father, Don Shirley. When Don Shirley was diagnosed with a rare disease, Scott Shirley and his Penn State teammates rallied behind the notion of using their position as college football student-athletes to shine a spotlight on the rare disease community.
The Penn State Chapter has run a Lift For Life as part of Uplifting Athletes every year since 2003, and recently held its 15th Lift For Life event.
Uplifting Athletes is a national nonprofit that inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport and empowers medical researchers to find cures. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and consequently lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. Founded in 2007, Uplifting Athletes has college football student-athlete led chapters nationwide in FBS and FCS programs including half the schools in the Big Ten and ACC conferences.
Thank you for your support of the Penn State Chapter and the rare disease community. Every little bit helps. Please don’t forget to share our Touchdown Pledge Drive campaign and your support on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
