Cardiac arrests claim almost half a million lives in the United States a year; half of those people experience no symptoms whatsoever before it strikes. However, if immediate attention either by hands-only CPR or an AED is used survival rates that hover around less than 10% can almost triple.Heart disease remains America’s #1 cause of death which highlights the urgent need for prevention and treatment.

This season, Denzel Ward is taking the mission to raise awareness about heart health and how to positively impact the heart disease epidemic onto the field with him. Join us by making a pledge for every pass Denzel “The Warden” Ward intercepts or defends this season!

In 2016, the Ward family experienced first-hand the unexpected loss of their patriarch, Paul G. Ward Jr., to cardiac arrest while he participated in a spin class. While there was an automated external defibrillator (AED) at the gym where he collapsed, no one used it. He was only 46 years old, and his premature death left behind a purpose and a legacy to carry on.

Ward and his family created the Make Them Know Your Name Foundation (MTKYN) to take action to positively change the outcome of cardiac episodes in communities across the United States, including educating people on how to use a defibrillator and how to perform hands- only CPR. We believe knowledge, training, and building the confidence to take action has the power to save lives. That’s why funds raised this season will go towards supporting our partner the American Heart Association and funding CPR kits in our local schools.
