Proceeds benefit Chinquapin Preparatory School
Every November, Chinquapin Middle School students participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Our young writers challenge themselves, setting ambitious goals and releasing their creativity. Each novelist plans a story, sets a word count goal, and writes relentlessly for a whole month. The month is full of furious typing, plot twists, and moments of triumph as readers meet daily goals. After an intense 30 days of writing, students spend early December polishing up an excerpt to share, publishing the completed novels with individualized book covers, and trading stories in celebrations.
This year, we invite you to journey with us toward our goal of writing 500,000 words and raising $35,000 to support our school by pledging a donation for every 500 words written by a Chinquapin middle school student. 500 words is approximately one page of student writing. Last year our 6-8th grade students wrote about 520,000 words and we’re hoping that we can maintain our 500,000+ word achievement even while writing from home, as our school remains in distance learning.
Chinquapin Preparatory School is an independent boarding school in Highlands, Texas that provides a rigorous, college preparatory education and produces responsible, well-educated citizens who will become constructive leaders in their communities. The funds raised will support our operating costs, create enrichment opportunities for students, and a portion will even be used for a one time college scholarship awarded when the student graduates from Chinquapin for one randomly selected student who reaches their word count goals in November 2020.
