PLEDGE IT salutes all of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominees, and is proud to have partnered with four of them to help raise awareness and money for the important causes that they have dedicated themselves to supporting.
On Wednesday, December 7th, the NFL announced the nominees for the 2016 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. Established in 1970, the award recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field. Each team nominates one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community.
Throughout the 2016-2017 NFL Season, four of the nominees chose PLEDGE IT as a fund raising and awareness platform for their causes:
Arizona Cardinals nominee Larry Fitzgerald launched the Crucial Catch Challenge with Larry Fitz throughout the month of October on PLEDGE IT, asking fans to make a pledge for every catch that he had throughout the month. 42 people pledged for Larry’s 36 catches in October, raising a total of $41,254 to benefit The American Cancer Society’s Crucial Catch Challenge.
Dallas Cowboys nominee Sean Lee invited fans to help make a positive difference in the lives of kids in North Texas by making a pledge to his Sacks for Kids challenge on PLEDGE IT. The campaign, which was presented by WorldVentures, saw fans pledging for every sack that Sean and the Cowboys have throughout the season, with the proceeds going to Sean’s Dreambuilders program and its support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County. The campaign has already raised close to $19,000.
Baltimore Ravens nominee Steve Smith Sr. and his Steve Smith Family Foundation have run the End Domestic Violence with Steve Smith campaign on PLEDGE IT throughout the season. The campaign has generated over $40 per catch to benefit Project 658. The funds raised will go toward the establishment of the Smith Family Wellness Center, in order to provide the highest level of care for the emotional, medical, physical and spiritual needs of at-risk families in Charlotte, NC.
Los Angeles Rams nominee Johnny Hekker announced his Punting for Water campaign on PLEDGE IT to benefit Waterboys, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing clean, accessible drinking water to rural communities in East Africa. Hekker invited fans to pledge a donation for every punt inside the 20-yard line that he recorded in the month of December. Just one game into the month, the campaign has already raised approximately $10,000.
