Bismack Biyombo’s mission each night for the Toronto Raptors is to crash the board — he’s averaging 8.2 rebounds a game this year. And on Wednesday night’s game on NBA TV against the Atlanta Hawks, he has a bit of motivation beyond the whole winning games, trying to beat out the Cavaliers for the top playoff seed and all of that: He’s using rebounds as a fundraiser for Eastern Congo.
“It’s a way to give a lot of chances and opportunities to those kids that I didn’t get,” he said. “More than everything, it’s education … each and every time I grow back home (to the Democratic Republic of Congo) I go visit different areas, the education’s just so important … being able to give (kids) opportunity whether it’s going to be get a scholarship to go to school or get a new pair of shoes, it’s just giving them a chance to be in better situations.”
