York Catholic & Delone Catholic launch PLEDGE IT rivalry campaign to raise over $16,000 to support Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital.
It's one of the best girl’s basketball rivalries in Pennsylvania: Delone Catholic vs York Catholic. They compete for every loose ball, compete on every single possession, compete for district and state titles. This season, they competed to raise money for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital during their highly anticipated rivalry game.
The two small schools, located in rural southern Pennsylvania, wanted to use their rivalry game spotlight for a cause and shine it on kids battling pediatric cancer. So along with a local FOX affiliate, they launched the “FOX43 & PLEDGE IT Points for the Kids Challenge” just 7 days before their big game.
Fans could pledge to donate for every point their team scored in the matchup. The team raising the most money through their on-court play would be crowned champion!
The rivalry campaign fueled the teams' motivation to perform and their fans desire to support the cause. Within the first 24 hours, both schools eclipsed their initial fundraising goals.
By tip-off Delone Catholic was earning $181 per point and York Catholic was earning $110 per point. After the final buzzer sounded, the teams had combined to score 114 points and raised over $16,000!
PLEDGE IT empowered the teams to tap into their community's competitive spirit and earn donations for a great cause by simply playing the game they love!
